Patrik Laine went more than a year between hat tricks, and still the 19-year-old Finnish star is on a remarkable pace.
Laine got his fourth hat trick and set a career high with his 38th goal, lifting the Winnipeg Jets over the New York Rangers 3-0 on Tuesday night.
“It was very nice for me to finally score a goal,” Klefbom told the team’s official website after snapping a 33-game drought off assists from McDavid and Draisaitl, who have combined for 51 goals and 89 assists.
McDavid has nine points (three goals, six assists) in a five-game run, and leads the club with 80 points (30 goals, 50 assists).
Draisaitl has collected 11 goals and 17 helpers in his last 25 contests and has not been held without a point in back-to-back games over that span. He has 60 points (21 goals, 39 assists) this season.
Against New York, the Oilers’ Cam Talbot is 6-2-0 with a 2.49 goals-against average in eight career starts. Al Montoya has given up 10 goals while winning all four career starts versus the Islanders.
The 25-year-old Gustafsson played his 20th game this season with Chicago on Tuesday night. Sikura, also 25, has skated with AHL Rockford, where he leads the farm team with 16 goals in his first season there. He’s the older brother of Blackhawks prospect Dylan Sikura, who’s finishing his senior year at Northeastern University. Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman has said he wants to sign Dylan after the NCAA season ends.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have a chance Thursday night to win three straight games for the first time since November.
An extended streak couldn’t come at a better time for the Blue Jackets (34-28-5) as they fight for their playoff lives during the final month of the regular season. They enter Thursday night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche at Nationwide Arena just two points ahead of the Florida Panthers for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The game is just as important for the Avalanche (35-24-7), who are trying to keep pace in the Western Conference race. They’re just outside the final wild-card spot behind the Los Angeles Kings with 16 games remaining.
The Blue Jackets, coming off a three-game West Coast swing, made it two consecutive wins on Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. They survived after having played and won Sunday night at San Jose.
