The Jacksonville Jaguars expect running back Leonard Fournette to play in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts after the star rookie injured his ankle Sunday, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette suffered a sprained right ankle late in the team’s 27-17 loss to the Rams and his status for the upcoming week is unclear.
Fournette suffered a sprained right ankle in the fourth quarter of the 27-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He was cleared to re-enter but remained on the sideline for Jacksonville’s final drive.
On Sunday, Fitzpatrick nearly led the Bucs to a comeback win. Down 31-0 in the third quarter, the team’s rally fell just short in a 38-33 loss. Fitzpatrick completed 22 of 32 passes for 290 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Fitzpatrick got time in the Bucs’ Week 2 win over the Bears, though he threw just one pass that fell incomplete. He was the starter for the Jets for the majority of last season, where he was 3-8 in his starts. The year before that, he led the Jets to a 10-6 record, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards along with 31 touchdowns against 15 interceptions.
Depending on the severity of Winston’s injury, the Bucs will be hoping they get 2015 Fitzpatrick, as opposed to the one we saw in 2016.
A few games doesn’t sound like a lot, but let’s put that in context for what New Orleans has been like over the past few years. The Saints gave up 13 points to Carolina; over the rest of their games, the Panthers have averaged 23 points. The Saints held Newton & Co. 10 points below their season average. Miami hasn’t been great, but it fell 15.3 points below expectation when the Saints shut it out in Week 4. (The Lions exceeded their season average, but even that’s only a trick of defensive scoring.)
